WINEMAKERS: Louis vallet

Burgundian born Louis Vallet is the third generation of passionate winemakers from Pierre Bouree Fils.

Paving his own way, Louis moved his négociant business south to Montagny-les- Beaune – it is here where he produces limited quantities of sought-after Burgundy.

With and expansive cellar beneathe the Chateau, and the only in the region covered in a bright purple mould. These wines of Chateau de Charodon are unique, expressive and charming.

Appellations

AOC Vougeot –  A very small appellation, producing largely premier Cru wines with Pinot Noir making up a very slight majority over Chardonnay. Very elegant, perfumed burgundy, with more floral and spice character than primary fruit.

AOC Mersault – Production centred around the premier cru Chardonnay vineyards, with very small amounts of Pinot Noir bearing the Mersault label. Well regarding for its bolder style, with excellent acid structure.

AOC Bourgogne – General appellation that covers the area of Burgundy, can be used on any wines produced within Burgundy – entry level, fruit forward styles suited to drinking in the short term (5 or so years)

AOC Gevery-Chambertin – with nine Grand Cru, and 26 premier Cru climats, this appellation is dedicated to Pinot Noir. Commanding higher prices than other areas. Brightly coloured and intensely aromatic, the wines from this area are generally more fuller in style.
