Sangiovese dominates the vineyards of Tuscany, producing everything from table wine to highly sought-after styles such as Brunello di Montalcino & Chianti Classico. Vineyards with high sun exposure, planted on the hillsides tend to produce the highest quality wines, particularly between 100m and 500m elevation. Although not just planted to Italian varietals, international grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc are also used to produce high quality wines. Tuscany’s long history of producing wine has seen its ups and downs over the centuries – Sangiovese now has a known reputation for producing excellent quality, long lived wines.

Tempranillo:

Although Tuscany is known for having international varietals planted and producing unique wines, Beconcini has Tempranillo. The Vigna alle Nicche is produced from vines much older than 100 years, believed to have been planted by the Spanish when they built a commune in the area. These ancient vines produce limited amounts of fruit, which are then dried for a period before undergoing a long ferment and maceration period, up to six weeks. A unique to place wine, from a grape seldom seem in these parts of the world, aged for four years before release.
