WINEMAKERS: RENATO KEBER

The Keber family has been producing wine in the Collio DOC region of north eastern Italy for over 100 years.

In the late 1970’s Renato and his farther expanded the cellar and from the late 1980’s have been producing wine under their own label. With quality, and a distinct personality, the focus the two lowered the yields and focussed on producing the best quality wine from this unique DOC.

Renato Keber has implemented organic farming and uses only indigenous yeasts to produce his wines. An early player in the field of Orange wine – using skins to enhance the colour and complexity, the wines of Reanto Keber offer a refreshingly different take on the region of Collio DOC.

region: COLLIO DOC

Collio DOC: This small DOC straddles the Slovenian border and has a cool continental climate. Home to some of Italy’s finest white wines, with a long history and many small family owned wineries.

The wines of Collio are distinct and generally of high quality. Unlike many other DOC areas, there is no specified wine type, but instead there is a large range of permitted grapes which may be produced as a single varietal or as a blend.

Many of these grapes are Italian natives, but several international varieties are also grown here. A specialty of the region is skin fermented orange wines, made from Pinot Bianco, Grigio or other indigenous grapes.
