SERGIO CARLEI
Dr Sergio Carlei is a qualified oenologist from Charles Sturt University (1996) and has excelled in winemaking in Australia in the last twenty-five years with his services being well sought after.
His achievements include being the first and only winemaker for 4 of the top 10 best new wineries in the 2007 Wine Companion by Australia’s leading and most notable wine critic James Halliday. In the 2008 and 2009 companions that followed, all the wineries that he consulted and produced wines have been accredited with the highest rating achievable (RED 5 stars) making them all in the top 6% of Australian wineries.
Max Allen in his 2010 book “The Future Makers – Australian Wines for the 21st century” lists Sergio Carlei as “making some of the best wines in Australia now, and they’re getting better all the time”.
His wines have been highly reviewed by many critics both in Australia and abroad.
Sergio’s passion and love is in family and cultural tradition, wine and food, and also in human and environmental health. He also has degrees in Science majoring in organic and environmental chemistry (Melb Uni) and Chiropractic (RMIT Uni).
Carlei Wines and Carlei Green Vineyards are a certified Organic and Biodynamic Winery and have been biodynamically winegrowing for 16 years. He is in the forefront and responsible for introducing biodynamic winegrowing to the more serious Australian wine producers. His focus is on true expression of terroir-based wines reflecting their origin and believes that “Real Wines don’t need to be compared, just appreciated”.
