ZANONI

VALPOLICELLA, ITALY

WINEMAKER: PIETRO ZANONI

The Zanoni family has been producing wine in Valpolicella since the early 1900’s. In the late 1990’s Pietro took over the family business and set out to turn his dream into a reality. Focusing on the three core grape varietals of the region, Corvina, Corvinone & Rondinella – Pietro undertook the task of replanting many of the vineyards using a guyot training system and high-density planting plan.

Sustainable vineyard practices and use of organic products allows the wines of Zanoni to express the beautiful vineyards from which they come.

“Introducing “Cantina di Pietro Zanoni” - Pietro Zanoni’s Cellar - is about a dream coming true. Talking about the wines made here is witnessing the evolution of an enterprise.”

region: VALPOLICELLA

Located in the North East of Italy, Valpolicella is a significant area for production of both simple table wines, intended to be drunk young, and sought-after high-quality styles such as Amarone or Ripasso.

The roughly 6.5 hectares of vineyards are divided into three properties in the Valpolicella, between the hills north of Verona. They are situated in Avesa, Parona and Quinzano, where the new winery is also located in the district of Zovo.

Corvina is generally the dominant grape variety (making up between 40%-95% of the final blend), bringing with it flavours or ripe cherries and chocolate.

Proximity to Lake Garda and the Adriatic Sea creates a cool continental climate, allowing for a longer ripening season, particularly in the Classico Zone.
